Kicks

The very first phase of the style of Mixed Martial Arts is made up of “kicks” which refers to the attacks which are made while standing up. Standing up is the initial position in which the fighters meet each other. These kicking techniques used in Mixed Martial Arts are a combination of kickboxing, Muay Thai, full contact karate, and regular boxing.

The abovementioned styles are extensively known as striking arts which mainly make use of kicking and punching, elbowing, kneeing, defensive blocking and other attacking techniques.

Punch

Punching techniques also form an important part of the striking arts. For this, the concepts of distance and timing have to be very clear in the mind of the fighter. This knowledge is vital so that the fighter can decide on the use of the most appropriate striking art depending upon his distance from his opponent.

The out-of-range zone is the zone where the fighter cannot reach his opponent. In such a situation, the fighter can either shoot out for a takedown by advancing quickly towards the opponent or close in for a clinch.

The distance that is required by the fighter to strike using fists, knees or elbows is known as the punching range. He can also make use of a jab punch. This kind of a punching range is important only with regards to boxing.

MMA grapple

Grapple

Grappling techniques are mainly related to the ground games as in the case of clinch holds, pinning holds, submission holds, sweeps, takedowns and throws. In this phase of the game, the fighters are combating on the floor. Wrestling and the Brazilian jiu jitsu are the best example of this technique.

The grappling technique of the takedown aims at disturbing the balance of the opponent and putting the fighter on the superior position by pinning him to the floor.

The various ways in which a victory is decided in the fight are the judges’ decision, a stoppage by the referee or a doctor in case of an injury, submission (tap out), the corner man throwing a towel, or a knockout.

There has been a lot of evolvement in the game and the rules on the fouls like head butting, manipulation of small joints, eye gouging, groin kick etc have become stricter except for the few changes with arise due to difference in places.

Mixed Martial Arts is an obvious favorite amongst contact sports and has patrons in most of the TV audiences. The sport is constantly improving itself and is getting better by the day.
