Mixed Martial Arts is made up of hybrid styles of fighting. The players, who are more commonly known as fighters, completely depend on their peculiar combinations of fighting techniques that are carefully developed by them after considering their strengths, style and weaknesses. The Sprawl-and-brawl is a style which is a stand-up fighting style and tactic which deals with effective striking. Thus style consists no ground fighting and the fighters use typical sprawls in order to defend them from takedowns. Fighters which are most known to make use of this hybrid style are boxers, Thai boxers, contact karate fighters, and kick boxers. They undergo special training in wrestling so as to avoid takedowns and keep standing during the entire fight.
The other name for Clinch fighting is dirty boxing as it is made up of moves and tactics that involve a clinch hold which will prevent the opponent from moving to a distance while the fighter is striking him. The clinch is a very popular style of hybrid fighting which is mostly adopted in Muay Thai and boxing. Most of the times, clinching is used by fighters when they want to neutralize superior striking skills. Clinching is a very effective way of violently or strategically controlling the opponent’s position.

Techniques which are made use of in order to obtain dominant or top position by involving throws and takedowns are known as Ground-and-pound. These are techniques of ground fighting that is concerned with pinning the opponent to the ground. The fighters or wrestlers who are well-versed with takedowns and submission defense are the ones who are most likely to use this style of hybrid fighting. It is the effectiveness, ease and reliability of these Ground-and-pound techniques that are responsible for making them extremely popular in terms of fighting.
Submission grappling involves making use of a throw or takedown in order to take the opponent into the ground. After the grappling the submission is used which helps in forcing the opponent to get into submission. The grapplers are always working towards obtaining a superior position. The last strategy is the lay-and-pray which comes into the picture in situations where the fighter could control the opponent to mount an effective offense. This technique is called so because it makes the opponent look in the praying position. The lay-and-pray technique is one of the most well known and commonly practiced techniques of Mixed Martial Arts.
