stress at work

Stress at work is a given for most people. The alternative of stress at work is stress in the unemployment line, and no one wants that. Don’t forget that stress can seriously hurt your health and cause a host of other problems, like insomnia and high blood pressure. So, in order to stay on top of your work and avoid stress at work, there are a few important things you should do.

First of all, don’t forget to sleep. In your haste to get all that work done, you might think it’s not a big deal to push your bedtime back a little. However, if you tell yourself that it’s okay once or twice, you may eventually get in a habit of sleeping too little and procrastinating too much. Sleeping well will help you concentrate, have a better mood, and deal with stress better. Sleeping poorly will make you cranky, unhappy, and of course, tired.

Having good relationships with your co-workers and your boss (gasp!) will make your life at work much better. One of the biggest sources of stress in the workplace is just not getting along with the people around you. After all, why would you want to go to a place and interact with people who you don’t like? Try complimenting and greeting your co-workers each day, and even striking up small conversations with them to show that you like to be around them.

avoid stress at work

It’s great if you love your job, but even the best job in the world shouldn’t take up all your time. If you find yourself consistently working overtime or squeezing work in at home, you need to make a change. A life outside of work is critical to having less stress overall, and it’s bound to improve your performance at work if your other needs are being met. Along those lines, if you keep organized and work hard to plan ahead, you might not find yourself needing to pull all-nighters getting projects done. Keep your calendar, planner, or BlackBerry full and use them to get things done efficiently.

Now you know how to avoid stress at work, but how do you avoid stress at other times? Stress is a killer, and you know that it can hurt your overall health, so the best way to combat it is to live a healthy lifestyle. That means doing some exercise, eating healthy foods, avoiding unhealthy substances like drugs and alcohol, and trying to lower your workload whenever possible. Remember, working all the time is not going to make you happy. Having a stress-free work environment is important, and so is having time for your family and yourself.

So, when thinking about how to avoid stress at work, remember to plan ahead and work more efficiently so you don’t have to work as long. Try to get enough sleep so you feel clear-headed and rested every morning. Live a healthy lifestyle and remember to be friendly with those around you. These suggestions should make you a happier and less stressed person, both at work and off work.
