Facing Obstacles efficiently as a Leader by Listening

One of the most basic traits required in a leader is the art of listening. An ideal leader is the one who can be brave enough to accept the opinion of others and listen to what they have to say even of he does not like it.
The function of leadership deals with finding the right way out and directing other people correctly into taking that way. The task has a lot to do with getting people together to work for a common cause. Needless to say, a person who is not good at listening will not be able to do any of this efficiently.
Listening works as an overpowering force. It gives rise to a series of possibilities and options in the mind of the listener which involves all the people around him. A person who has the quality of listening can easily attract people to come and talk to him because they know he will listen to them patiently.
When one listens to other people, subconsciously he is giving those people an opportunity to come up with innovative ideas, thus helping them grow as individuals. This works for the listener because these people will in turn start believing in the listener. This happens because the listener gives them a chance to improve and excel. These people become funny because it was you who laughed at their joke.
Humans generally feel ecstatic when they have someone who is listening to them. In return of listening to them, the leader can tell them what he wants them to do by giving directions. The fact that the leader was listening to them will make them feel that the leader now knows what they feel and they follow the instructions given to them.

As a leader, listening to your followers helps in bridging the gap between you and them. Openly listening to their experiences and grievances will give you a clearer picture to the situation and you will know exactly what is going on in reality.
The art of listening enables the leader to make more appropriate decisions. He is also more accurate while assigning tasks and imparting directions to his subordinates. all this results in more people following the leader and listening to him.
For any leader, the most crucial thing is to be able to see the reality in all situations. And how does the leader know about the reality? It can be done only by effective listening.
There are a lot of people who have a lot of things to say to their leader. Some have problems that have to be dealt with; some have explanations to give and so on. By listening to them patiently, the leader is exposed to the reality and gets to know of what his followers are going through. It is these real situations that he should be able to deal with.
The know-it-all characterization of leaders is a thing of the past. The leaders of today’s times have to know exactly what their followers expect from him and what steps they want him to take. This is the only way of giving them the right directions and the only way to achieve it is through listening.
