Be a Successful Leader by Being Self-Confident

self-confidence

When you assess yourself well by trying to know yourself more by analyzing your strong and weak points, you can surely reach the utmost performance of your life.

The person who won’t be able to assess his abilities might not be so successful in carrying a task. This is due to the lack of confidence that they will be able to perform their task well. This is where the importance of self-confidence is greatly emphasized.

Self-confidence is a crucial factor for success. A lot of people are even finding it hard to stumble upon it and it can be such a hard truth that people who doesn’t have a high sense of self-confidence will find it daunting to become a successful leader.

Who would want to follow a person who lacks a positive sense of self? Who would want to admire someone who is extremely messed up and remorseful? It is always better to follow the footsteps of someone who portrays a positive aura and speaks clearly.

Always bear in mind that leaders should be a good role model for the majority. If people would find you uncertain with your own disposition and that you are always somehow indecisive of things, then you surely won’t be able to influence much. The main point is that leaders should always be on the right track and that they must show the image that they are very sure with what they are doing.

self-confidence

To boost up your self-confidence all the more, you can take into consideration the following points:

  1. Have your own self assessment

This is fairly important since a good understanding of yourself is the best way to know how you can improve as well. You can be totally honest with yourself in this level and you will be able to perceive things and your responsibilities in further details. For instance, if a certain leader would instruct a member to jump from a bridge, the leader must be able to evaluate not just the condition of the bridge if it is rather safe or not, but also evaluate the capabilities of the member who is about to jump.

  2. To take responsibility

You must accept and admit that the things that you do are just the results of your own set of choices. Hence, you must always feel responsible for all the actions and decisions you’ll make.

  3. Challenging yourself

It is always better to treat yourself as the main competitor than see others as your enemies. You might only worsen the situation if you will not refrain from comparing yourself with others.

Finally, bear in mind that self-confidence also includes stability. It is important that you know how to balance the level of self confidence that you have in yourself so that you can avoid either being an underdog or a completely arrogant person.  Leaders are known to be humble and they become more successful by always keeping their feet on solid ground. They know that being rightly humble and fairly self confident would amount to being a successful leader.

The Qualities of an Ideal Leader of a Country

The US presidential elections are just around the corner and with so many pressing issues in the year 2008; it is more than necessary for Americans to be able to choose the right candidate. With so mush responsibility vested on their shoulders, these citizens are compelled to acquaint themselves with the qualities that should be expected from the leader who will run their country.

The United States was once the strongest super power of the world. Of course, it is still one of the most influential nations but whether it remains the strongest or not is arguable. To ensure that the position of the nation does not derogate further and it regains the position it once had on the globe, it is necessary for the citizens to choose an efficient leader who has set goals in mind.

The vital traits required in a leader who intends to run a country:

George Bush

Bob Woodwards points out that George Bush Jr who is the 43rd president of the United States tends to live in the denial mode. Admitting mistakes and finding ways to correct them is an important quality of the leader of a nation. He cannot afford to turn a blind eye to his mistakes and pretend that everything is well taken care of.

The hugest mistake Bill Clinton (the 42nd President of the United States) made was to get carried away by his own personal passions and let them reflect on his work. His alleged affair with Monica Lewinsky was responsible for ruining his reputation not only in America but all over the world.

Another most important vice that the leader of any nation should steer clear of is corruption. Some of the leaders cannot handle the authority bestowed upon them and begin to misuse it at the first given chance. What they should be doing is to be a good example for the citizens of his country as well as the other leaders of the world. The case of Richard Nixon who was involved in the Watergate Scandal is the best example.

John F. Kennedy

A leader who possesses a charm and popularity is favored by all. Just like President John F. Kennedy Sr, leaders all over should understand that it is the people of the country who are the most powerful and they should try and gain as much support and adulation as they can to make things simpler for themselves. The charm possessed by President Ronald Reagan was an important factor that escalated his career to great heights.

An important responsibility of the leader of a nation is to make smart and correct moves in times of crisis. President Franklin Roosevelt during the Second World War and President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War witnessed not one but two wars. Both these leaders managed to choose the right over the wrong and fight for their nations in the most effective way possible.

All of the above are the characteristics that the Americans should look out for while making their choice amongst Obama, Clinton, Guiliani and the others. The one who has all these qualities should only be elected president.

The Characteristics of a Good Leader

The position of a leader is as empowering as it is exhausting. Irrespective of the fact that you are a leader at a school or a community or at your workplace, you are the subject of a lot of expectations. There is no set formula that can help you become the leader who can efficiently meet all these expectations. The quality of leadership is inborn which is reflected in the way a child behaves. This quality can be developed and enhanced in the formative years in order to make a leader who is par excellence. An ideal leader is suppose to be headstrong while making decisions but also be sensitive enough to recognize the needs of his followers and work for their welfare.

strong mind

A strong mind is a basic prerequisite to making an effective leader. Making crucial decisions is an indispensable part of a leader’s job. These decisions made by the leader have their effect on a lot of important aspects relating to the interests of the company or the group. It is human to err but a true leader should be able to avoid mistakes by making clever moves and analyzing the situation well before jumping to any conclusion.

The situations that are faced by the leader are not the same all the time. Some of them can be very complicated and might need a completely new approach to tackle. In such cases, the leader cannot be expected to always make the right decision. In case of any such mistake, the leader is expected to bravely face his mistake and be entirely accountable for his flaw. A decision, once made by the leader should be the last nail and the leader should have no doubts about it. This will instill confidence in the followers regarding the leader’s decision making powers.

decision making

The decisions made by a good leader are taken after carefully examining the decision and not by simply getting carried away by the opinions of others. In order to do this, the leader should have a very strong mind and he should be confident about his capabilities. If the leader is a person who can easily change his decisions based on what someone has to say, the company will suffer in a lot of ways because the followers might only think about their own interest and convincer the leader to take wrong decisions.

Being opinionated is another essential quality of a good leader. It is necessary that the leader have a strong opinion about everything. He should have a clear picture of the problems that are being faced and the methods that should be adopted in order to solve those problems. He should be open to ideas but eventually must know what is good and bad for the interest of the company. Clubbing the best ideas that have been received and developing a fool proof mechanism is the strongest attribute of a leader.
